The ship has been out of service since 31st August 2014, and has spent the past 10 weeks at the Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo, Italy.
A giant pre-built section was carefully inserted into the middle of the ship, lengthening it by 24 meters and adding an additional 194 cabins.
Other new features on board include a spray park, refurbished shops, new child and teen areas including the LEGO area , an enhanced buffet, a new lounge, and an extended restaurant.
The enhancement is part of MSC Cruises, Renaissance Programme, which will also see the same refurbishments on board;
MSC Sinfonia: 12th January - 16th March 2015
MSC Opera: 2nd May - 4th July 2015
MSC Lirica: 31st August - 9th November 2015
The new, lengthened ship will first depart on a 10-night cruise to the Canary Islands from Genoa.
