Now that Virgin Cruises has the 'green light' to start company operations, the group has appointed Tom McAlpin to be the cruise lines CEO, overseeing the management of the business. Tom was previously the president of Disney Cruise Line's and joined as part of the founding management team. His previous insights will prove vital for Virgin Cruises as the company develops its brand. Tom McAlpin commented: Cruise guests deserve something better and different to what is being offered today, and Virgin Cruises is committed to creating breathtaking experiences for them and a new generation of guests. Opportunities like this do not come often, so I am very excited to lead this business and introduce the Virgin brand to the cruise industry, as it has always put customers at the heart of what it does. Regent Seven Seas has unveiled the first visuals of their new ship, due to launch in summer 2016. President of the company, Jason Montague, boldly described it as "the most luxurious ship ever created." Along with the reveal of the visual renderings, Regent Seven Seas has launched a new, micro website, which will feature the latest information on Seven Seas Explorer, including updates on construction, public space and suite designs, onboard amenities, itineraries and other elements as they are revealed. An added feature to the site is a never before seen two-minute video that sets the elegant tone for Seven Seas Explorer, while building anticipation for the newest addition to the fleet. Jason Montague, president and chief operating officer of Regent Seven Seas Cruises, said: We’re building the most luxurious ship ever created, and our loyal guests and travel agent partners are eagerly awaiting detailed information about Seven Seas Explorer. This dedicated microsite provides us with a platform to provide our passionate brand advocates with the latest updates and exciting developments surrounding this extraordinary new ship from now through launch. Seven Seas Explorer will carry 750-guests in all-suite, all-balcony staterooms. She will sail on cruises around the Mediterranean when she launches in summer 2016, however specific itineraries are still to be announced.
Seven Seas Society members, the line’s loyalty program, can register for priority reservation details for the ship’s inaugural season, which will open to members on 19th January 2015. Cruises will go on general sale on 11th February 2015. P&O's Azura has rescued three people from a small boat in the Caribbean. The ship's captain spotted the men on a small boat, who appeared to be in poor physical condition, of the coast of Grenada. A rescue boat was launched from Azura and transported the three men onto the ship. They were then treated by medical staff and were later taken by the local coastguard who towed their boat to Grenada. Azura was en-route to St Lucia, where it arrived on time this morning. P&O Cruises marketing director, Christopher Edgington, commented on the rescue operation: As required both by international maritime law and the duty of all at sea, we have to assist any vessel or seafarer in danger. We commend the actions of Azura's captain and crew, who performed admirably, acting swiftly to save other seafarers. Seabourn has confirmed the order of its second new cruise ship due to launch in 2018. The 40,350GT vessel will be a sister ship to the currently unnamed luxury cruise ship which will enter service in 2016. Seabourn's president, Rick Meadows commented on the new builds: These two new ships will offer the understated elegance we are known for, as well as new amenities, innovations and modern design features that embody the hallmarks of Seabourn. The public spaces on both new vessels will be designed by iconic interior designer, Adam Tihany, who is currently working on the new Koningsdam for Holland America Line. Tihany has previously designed areas on board Celebrity Cruises' Solstice class vessels, including the Oceanview Cafe and Tuscan Grille.
The new cruise ships will be based on the Odyssey-class, with one additional deck and expanded public areas. Popular features such as the Seabourn Square, a large area featuring guest services, the library, computer stations and a coffee shop, will be found on board the new vessels. Each ship will carry 604 passengers in luxurious all-suite, veranda staterooms. |
