P&O's Azura has rescued three people from a small boat in the Caribbean. The ship's captain spotted the men on a small boat, who appeared to be in poor physical condition, of the coast of Grenada. A rescue boat was launched from Azura and transported the three men onto the ship. They were then treated by medical staff and were later taken by the local coastguard who towed their boat to Grenada. Azura was en-route to St Lucia, where it arrived on time this morning. P&O Cruises marketing director, Christopher Edgington, commented on the rescue operation: As required both by international maritime law and the duty of all at sea, we have to assist any vessel or seafarer in danger. We commend the actions of Azura's captain and crew, who performed admirably, acting swiftly to save other seafarers. P&O Cruises has thrown five trouble-making passengers off of Oriana. The ship was on a short, two-night mini-cruise to Zeebrugge. Oriana left Southampton on Saturday and arrived in Zeebrugge on Sunday, before returning back to Southampton on Monday. However after a fight broke out between family members late Saturday evening and the early hours of Sunday, the crew on board Oriana refused to allow the passengers to remain on board. The group were interviewed by Belgium police and were told they would have to make their own travel arrangements to get back to Southampton. In a brief statement, a spokesman for P&O Cruises told the Daily Echo: We can confirm five passengers were asked to disembark Oriana following an incident during the early hours of Sunday morning. A female passenger, currently travelling on Fred Olsen's Braemar, made an emergency call to the coastguard after getting stuck on her balcony, as the ship left Southampton.
The Daily Echo reports that the woman became locked out of her balcony shortly after 9pm on Thursday, as the ship was nearing Portsmouth. She used her mobile phone to ask for help. The Solent Coastguard contacted the ship, who then sent a crew member to rescue her. Cruise Capital was at the quayside, as the ship left Southampton, after returning from a refit. You can view ship stalking photos from the afternoon arrival and evening departure here. She is currently sailing on a 3-night cruise to Rouen. She will return on Sunday. The Marco Polo, operated by UK based Cruise & Maritime Voyages, has reportedly ran aground in Norway. The 1965 built vessel was reportedly arriving at the port of Leknes in Northern Norway. No injuries have been reported and there appears to be no damage to the ship.
