Over the past few days, you've probably seen countless news stations covering the Hoegh Osaka grounding in the Solent.
Today I took a trip to the Isle of Wight, with Red Funnel, to take a closer look at the gigantic car transporter, listing 52 degrees, in one of the busiest shipping channels.
With helicopters in the sky and camera crews lining the Cowes waterfront, it made an interesting change to what is usually a quaint small town. It felt surreal seeing the ship with my own eyes and not viewing it on the TV.
The Bramble Bank is a notorious shipping hazard, which requires a series of sharp turns to avoid the shallow waters. The waters here outside the main channel are so shallow, that in the summer a cricket match can be played.
As the Red Osprey approached the 51,000 tonne Osaka, it was a strange sight to see so much of the ship out of the water.

Thankfully no one was badly injured, but a poignant reminder of the crews rescue efforts was a lonesome lifebuoy, swaying in the wind, from the side of the ship.
